After gaining his teaching qualifications, Michael Thornber completed a BA from Macquarie University and then a Diploma of Counselling from the Institute of Counselling.
In the late seventies and early eighties, Michael Thornber was involved in the administration of private Secondary Schools in NSW, he also completed his Master of Education from University of New South Wales during this period. At this time he was also involved in offering long term consultancy support to schools who wished to embark upon more systematic, collaborative and problem solving approaches to school improvement and change.
From 1984 until 1988 Michael held the position of Staff and Executive Development Consultant in the Catholic Education Office Sydney, a role which involved the design and delivery of Executive Development Programs for school leadership teams. Michael was concurrently involved in action research in his work as an external consultant with school groups who wished to implement the new approaches to leadership.
During 1988 Michael broadened his leadership and consultancy base by working in an international management consultancy firm, Alexander Proudfoot, where he was Head of Management Development. This was to be a stage of transition towards the formation of his own consultancy services.
Since then Michael Thornber & Associates have been working in service organisations in the development of staff management skills, as well as planning for the implementation of quality approaches to management.

Mr Michael Thornber commenced his career in teaching and educational leadership.
He has been the principal of Michael Thornber & Associates for nearly 30 years providing consultancy support and formal programs in leadership and organisation development to numerous catholic health, aged care, schools, education systems and welfare organisations both in Australia and Ireland.
Maricarmen Wacher has worked in business consulting for the last 6 years, assisting clients ranging from schools, hospitals, and law firms. She is also a Juris Doctor candidate, a judo coach and competitor, and member of the Executive Committee of the UNSW Judo Club.

Lachlan Wacher joined the MTA team in 2018 in administrative support role. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Economics & Bachelor of Law degree at the University of Technology Sydney.
